Wednesday, 2/3 at 1pm PST I'll be walking through Wednesday, 2/3 at 1pm PST I'll be walking through our favorite sourdough sandwich bread in a live virtual class!

Sourdough has a way of reminding us about importan Sourdough has a way of reminding us about important truths in life.

Just like how rushing dough results in broken gluten bonds and a dough that is sticky and difficult to shape, rushing through our days runs us ragged and liable to snap under the pressure.

Resting, truly resting without distractions like tv and media, restores us and helps us become the best versions of ourselves.

And it also creates the best bread!

Next time you are waiting on your bread, give yourself permission to rest.

In the community, I had two people say they have comfy chairs in or near their kitchen to rest, read, or talk with a friend while they wait on their bread. Such a beautiful, restorative practice!

I hope you are finding a way to rest and restore yourself this weekend! Maybe you need a comfy chair by the kitchen too? 😉
Can you guess how long it took me to work up the c Can you guess how long it took me to work up the courage to teach my first sourdough class ??

I had to work up the courage to even send out the email.

I hit send on Feb. 27, 2018.

I was sure people would think I was ridiculous or full of myself or a joke.

I probably wouldn't hear from anyone.

Fear of failing and fear of rejection kept me stuck and overthinking.

From my earliest thoughts about teaching classes to my first official class it was nearly 9 months.

Fear is a liar and a thief .

Do you want to take a next step in your sourdough baking? To grow in proficiency and/or teach others?

The power of community is that not only will you have a guide (me) who has been there before and can support you, fear loses power when you are moving forward (accountability) and when you bring it out into the light (sharing with peers).

If that's you, I can't wait to meet you in the Sourdough Instructor Masterclass and Community kicking off Jan. 16th!
Out of all the recipes we've tried and loved, Sour Out of all the recipes we've tried and loved, Sourdough Cinnamon Twist Bread is still our family favorite, especially for Christmas morning! ♥️

I hope you had an incredible Christmas. I am planning for the new year with joy, hope and expectation!

I'll be sharing some of these updates in my newsletter. 💌

My newsletter will be the best way to get tutorials, recipes, demo videos, class announcements, and details for current or aspiring sourdough instructors in the new year.

To everyone who participated in the LBB Sourdough Holiday Baker Competition by creating or voting, thank you! It was such a bright spot to see all the creativity!

Congrats to our winner with the Sourdough Maple-Pecan Tear-and-Share Buns! 🥳

Any special recipes planned for NYE? We are going to make sourdough bread bowls with homemade clam chowder made with fresh clams from our wonderful farmers market. Wish me luck! And if you have any tips, I'd love them! 😅

In case you need something fun to bake this weeken In case you need something fun to bake this weekend! Gingerbread MINI Scones with Eggnog Icing 🤗 The recipe is on my site and doesn’t actually include eggnog just nutmeg in case you don’t have that ingredient on hand. 😉
It might surprise you that growing up, I did not l It might surprise you that growing up, I did not like sourdough bread. 😬⁣
⁣
I only knew it as the very sour chewy white bread from the store not as a whole approach to baking. 💡⁣
⁣
When I finally got help for my digestive issues, I learned about how sourdough is a traditional method of fermentation to make grains more digestible. ⁣
⁣
So I taught myself to make the bread I thought I didn’t like. And I slowly realized it can taste many different ways depending on preparation, formula, and fermentation method. ⁣
⁣
But I wanted to replace ALL my flour based foods. So I began to experiment, to read, to learn. ⁣
⁣
Finding out that I can make sourdough versions of my favorite things has been a creative outlet as well as a fun way to gather my family. We love taste testing something new or celebrating an especially good bake!⁣
⁣
There’s always something new to learn and appreciate with sourdough! Like this sourdough gingerbread cracker house I made instead of using store bought honey maids this year 🎄🏠🌟⁣
⁣
If you’re asking yourself, what else can I make with sourdough? Welcome! I’m happy to be a guide whether it’s here on social media, my newsletter, or in a more intimate setting that I’ll be sharing details about soon!! 🤗

A quick video of shaping star bread 🌟🥖⁣
⁣
This particular version is jam-filled and was described in my first book, Everyday Bread Baking. What I’m brushing on the dough before the raspberry jam is egg white to provide a barrier for the moisture of the jam. ⁣
⁣
The dough is the version I made for the star bread in my second book Celebrate with Bread Baking! See the post below or the recipe was shared on my site. ⁣
⁣
I topped it with a simple vanilla glaze and chopped pistachios. For a simpler topping, a dusting of powdered sugar is beautiful! ⁣
⁣
In the video it’s hard to see, but the twisting is make or break. Twist in an outward direction GENTLY only 2-3 times (2 was perfect here). If you twist too tight or over twist your filling will come out and end up burnt on the pan or oven floor. 🙈⁣
⁣
For sourdough, make sure you give it adequate time to proof for the best crumb! ⁣
⁣
Make this for a great gift or gift my book Celebrate with Bread Baking to your favorite baker to make this for you! 😉 (link for my book is in my bio.)

Sourdough pizza + twinkling lights + the Elf movie Sourdough pizza + twinkling lights + the Elf movie 🙌🏼⁣
⁣
Sourdough pizza blows all other versions away in my very biased opinion. ⁣
⁣
I of course love having a version of my favorite food that doesn’t cause digestive discomfort like the standard variety. ⁣
⁣
Pizza was the typical culprit when I was younger for intense pain and/or heartburn. I took the pink digestive medicine and heartburn tablets on the regular. ⁣
⁣
It was normal to me. ⁣
⁣
It wasn’t until everything in my digestive system fell apart that I sought help and began building my knowledge from the ground up which brought me to sourdough. ⁣
⁣
So thankful for a healthier version to share with my family. ♥️⁣
⁣
What movie pairs best with pizza?? Let me know! 🤗
